How to Find La Laguna Bay Jungle Lodge & Marina

By road / International airport

The easiest way to come to see us by road is to get to the town of Fronteras (also known as Rio Dulce) in the department of Izabal. Then take a 35 minutes boat ride in the direction of Livingston.
Fronteras is a 5 hours bus ride from the capital, Guatemala city or 4 hours from San Pedro de Sula airport in Honduras.
There is also a private airstrip in Rio Dulce for charter or private plane

By boat

Coming from the West Caribbean sea, you should officially enter Guatemala in the port of Livingston in Amatique Bay.
Livingston is at the mouth of the Rio Dulce river on your starboard side when you are coming in from the sea and there are sand bars at the entrance.

To enter the river, locate the black sea buoy 3/4 miles off shore (GPS position as provided in the Freya Rauscher guide 3rd edition - Lat 15.50.08 Long 88.43.89) which you leave to your port side.
From there you should see (approximately 1 mile away) the point where the river enters a canyon.

Follow an imaginary line that would take you to the left wall of the Rio Dulce river canyon, proceed on that line until you are level with a gas station on your starboard side .

You can anchor around here, get your entry papers ready and call Raul on VHF CH 16 or 68 or telephone (011 502) 5510-9104.

Aim at the left ridge of the canyon

As soon as your paperwork is completed you can motor up the river,

Texan Bay Marina is only 7 miles away from the sea buoy.

The river is fairly deep and as long as you stay in the center and on the inside of curves you will not encounter problems.

Your journey will start through a breathtaking canyon for a few miles, you can start to appreciate the jungle there and the many birds.

After a few miles the river will widen and the canyon walls will start falling away.

Soon you will arrive at the entrance of the lake, El Golfete - head for Wp 2; Check it on the picture below (GPS WPT 2 - N 15º 46.713 W 088º 49.358)

Note - go all the way to the waypoint and do not turn before because the port side corner has some underwater concrete pilings that cannot be seen from the surface.

From Wp 2 proceed to port to the Wp 3 (GPS WPT3- N 15º 46.307 W 088º 50.077)

As you approaching the waypoint (wpT.3) you should be able to see our sign on the shore to port
